Isuzu SUV Sales Surge 483% in Kenya Following KSh 3.6M Price Cut

Sales of Isuzu East Africa’s luxury sport utility vehicles (SUVs) have skyrocketed, recording an incredible 483.3% surge in sales during the first half of 2026. 

Data from the Kenya Motor Industry Association (KMIA) shows that demand for the seven-seater Isuzu mu-X jumped from just 18 units to 105 units within six months.

The primary catalyst driving this massive sales boom? Local vehicle assembly.

By shifting from fully-built imports to assembling the mu-X locally at plants in Kenya, showroom prices dropped dramatically from KSh 13.5 million down to KSh 9.9 million, delivering a massive KSh 3.6 million savings to buyers.

• Reduced Levies: Lower Import Declaration Fee (IDF) at 2.5% (down from 3.5%) and Railway Development Levy (RDL) at 1.5% (down from 2.0%).

These tax incentives have allowed formal dealers to make brand-new vehicles far more accessible. 

In fact, 92.3% of all new vehicles sold in Kenya in June 2026 were locally assembled, proving that buyers are increasingly choosing brand-new, warranted SUVs over used foreign imports.
